In his all-too-brief lifetime, Werner Bischof (1916 – 1954) produced an astoundingly prolific oeuvre encompassing close to 60,000 photographs. Around 50 original prints from the Werner Bischof Estate are now available to view as well as purchase at the Leica Gallery Konstanz. The representative selection features remarkable images of post-war Europe and the era of the Iron Curtain, as well as excerpts from Bischof’s international reportages.

The Zurich-born Leica photographer initially moved to Paris to pursue his passion for painting. In 1945, he travelled through Germany to document the devastating aftermath of World War II – creating a body of work that went on to earn great international recognition. In 1948, Bischof became a member of the renowned Magnum agency.

The exhibition opens on August 30, 2019, at 19.30. The late photographer’s son, Marco Bischof, will be present at the opening reception.
