Thomas Hoepker (b. 1936 in Munich) ranks among the world’s most famous reportage photographers. As a photojournalist and correspondent for Germany’s ‘Stern’ magazine, he travelled the world – creating images that are now viewed as significant records of contemporary history. He subsequently took on the roles of Art Director for ‘Stern’, Executive Editor at GEO magazine, and President of Magnum Photos – thereby occupying some of the most influential positions within the international photography scene. His professional accomplishments also include book projects, film productions and countless exhibitions in the world’s leading galleries and museums. The showcase ‘Strange Encounters’ takes a humorous look at some of the curious scenes and idiosyncratic moments the photographer was able to capture on his travels.
