Photoszene Festival Cologne

May 1, 2019

The 2019 edition of Cologne’s Photoszene Festival is set to take place from 3 to 12 May.
This year’s edition of the Photoszene Festival opens at Cologne’s Ludwig Museum on 3 May 2019. At the heart of the festival is the Artist meets Archive residency programme, whose participants (Erik Kessels, Ola Kolehmainen, Ronit Porat, Fiona Tan, Roselyne Titaud and Antje van Wichelen) applied their individual perspectives to the archives of six institutions in Cologne. The results will be exhibited at the Cologne City Museum, the Museum of Applied Arts, the SK Stiftung Kultur Foundation, the Rautenstrauch-Joest Museum, and the Kaune Contemporary Gallery.

In addition to a varied exhibition programme, visitors will be able to participate in a range of workshops, guided tours and discussion rounds. The symposium Photographic Material: Archives and Tools (3 and 4 May at the Academy of Media Arts) explores artistic strategies in times of virtual reality and 3D photography. Events such as Photographer’s Night and Streaming Pictures are also among the festival’s highlights. In addition, the programme includes the awards ceremony for the prestigious Dr. Erich Salomon Prize, established by the German Photographic Society (DGPh) to recognise outstanding achievements in photojournalism.
