In memory of his grandfather, Ernt Leitz, Knut Kühn-Leitz has collected together master pieces by famous Leica photographers for an exhibition that will be on display at the Forum for Photography in Cologne.
The exhibition includes i.a. black and white images by Erich Salomon, Paul Wolff, Werner Bischof, Henri Cartier-Bresson, René Burri, Elliot Erwitt, Thomas Hoepker, Barbara Klemm, Robert Lebeck, Marc Riboud and Sebastião Salgado, as well as photographs taken by Oskar Barnack with the original Leica.
In honour of the seminal decision to produce the Leica back in 1924, and recognising the way it totally transformed the world of photography, Knut Kühn-Leitz is also publishing his grandfather's biography. Available initially only in German, the photo book include texts by a number of different authors explaining the commercial risks and technological challenges that the Ernst Leitz company successfully pulled off.
