The photo collection of the Städel Museum in Frankfurt is going to increase significantly: with the support of the State Cultural Foundation and the Cultural Foundation of the State of Hesse, the Association of the Städel Museum and the Städel Museum itself have bought a comprehensive volume of photographs from the Annette and Rudolf Kicken collection. In addition to the purchase of a total of 524 pieces of the Neuen Sachlichkeit movement, of Bauhaus photography, and of the, so called, Subjective Photography movement, the Städel collection has received a generous donation of a further 649 photographs from Rudolf and Annette Kicken.

Icons of photographic history
The collection represents all the most important tendencies of European photographic art during the first half of the 20th century, and includes icons of photographic history such as works by Leopold Ahrendts, Gertrud Arndt, Man Ray, Albert Renger-Patzsch, Franz Roh, Werner Rohde, August Sander and Otto Steinert.
