The exhibition ‘Ulrich Mack: Kennedy in Berlin’. The 1963 trip to Germany can be seen at the Willy-Brandt-Haus up until June 6, 2013.
“Ich bin ein Berliner”– these famous words spoken by John F. Kennedy have become part of history. Kennedy came to visit West Germany in June 1963; a side trip to Berlin turned the trip into a triumphal procession. It was both a great political and a great media event, followed closely by photographer Ulrich Mack, on assignment for the magazine ‘Quick’.
Mack's black and white reportage reveals excellent craftsmanship, a sense for the perfect moment, and for great gestures, but also a sensitive eye for everything going on round about.
No photographer documented that State visit so completely, so sensitively and in such a committed manner as Mack. After five decade his images have at last found their way back into the light of day.
Exhibition opening of Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at 18:30.
Further images and information about the photographer Ulrich Mach can be found in LFI issue 3/2013. This issue is also available on the iPad.
