Just Loomis

November 4, 2013

Berlin's Hiltawsky Gallery will be showing the exhibition "Women" by American photographer Just Loomis from 13 November 2013 to 11 January 2014
Gender and identity are a persistent subject for Loomis, whose long-term project "Women" contains photographs of friends and lovers, his wife, and anonymous waitresses from Los Angeles.

Classically beautiful models, twin sisters from Ireland, bondage performance artists at the Chateau Marmont, and portraits taken in Northern Europe complete the series.

The photographer's years of work and friendship with Helmut Newton are reflected in many of his images, although Loomis later moved away from Newton's complex fashion and portrait shoots in order to develop his own visual language.

Just Loomis lives and works in Los Angeles and Berlin. He is currently running a workshop on the theme of Intimate Portraiture at the New School for Photography in Berlin.
