From 18 September, Hamburg's Hilaneh von Kories Gallery will be hosting the exhibition "The Light of Istanbul. Photographs 1950–1970" by Ara Güler – one of Turkey's most important and acclaimed photographers. In the words of renowned Turkish writer Orhan Pamuk, "Ara Güler's photographs are exemplary, poetic documents of the way in which man and cityscape, the power of the past and the providence of the day are all part of the same black and white fabric, the same bewildering entity."
Introduction by Fatih Akin
The exhibition will be complemented by Erdal Buldun's film "The photographer of Istanbul – Ara Güler" (1998) as well as Buldun's own photographs, titled "Colours of Memory". Film maker Fatih Akin will be speaking at the opening night. A detailed article on the exhibition will be featured in the next issue of LFI, published on 1 October.
