A small brook near her studio in Dartmoor, Devon, has become the focus of photographer Susan Derges’ new image series. Her exhibition “Alder Brook” is open at London’s Purdy Hicks Gallery from November 9th, 2012 to January 19th, 2013.
For her latest series, artist Susan Derges has photographed a little local brook from different angles – both from above and below – depicting the water’s surface as well as the things surrounding it. The results are evocative images capturing conflicting emotions about a site which seems to hold both memories and a sense of loss. Using the themes of reflection and immersion, Derges depicts her subjects – water, bridges, crossings, a gate – in a dream-like way that allows the viewer to see them with an entirely new perception.
