A large retrospective of French photographer Robert Doisneau will be showing at the Nederland Fotomuseum in Rotterdam from 1 June to 1 September 2013. The exhibition encompasses 143 images and documents, including the iconic ‘Baiser de l’Hôtel de Ville’ – depicting a couple kissing in front of the Parisian Town Hall in 1950.
About the photographer
Robert Doisneau extensively documented everyday life in the streets of France. His first
photographic story was published in 1932, when, at the age of twenty, he created a reportage on a flea market for Excelsior magazine. This was followed by publications in magazines such as Life and Paris Match, as well as a contract with Vogue from 1949 to 1953. Doisneau also took numerous portraits of famous artists including Pablo Picasso, Fernand Léger and Georges Braque.
