The exhibition "Decade by Decade" with photographs by Walker Evans will be showing at the Huis Marseille in Amsterdam from 22 June to 1 September 2013.
The selection addresses a variety of creative periods throughout the American photographer's career. As well as his famous images documenting everyday life in the US, the exhibition includes a series featuring gladiolas, displayed here for the first time, as well as Polaroids Evans took shortly before his death.
About the photographer
Walker Evans (1903-1975) became known for his 1930s series documenting the poverty of American farm labourers during the Great Depression. Images from the series were exhibited in the Museum of Modern Art in New York as early as 1938. Evans' sober observation, and his focus on the subtle aspects of everyday life, make his images an authentic reflection of this period in American history.
