Leica photographer Ilona Szwarc receives the Arnold Newman Prize for New Directions in Photographic Portraiture
Established in 2009, the Arnold Newman Award is given out annually in recognition of new directions in portrait photography. The monetary prize of 15,000 US dollars is sponsored by the Arnold and Augusta Newman Foundation in collaboration Maine Media Workshops, the American Society of Media Photographers, and the Photo District News. The prize-giving ceremony will take place in New York and at the Maine Media Workshops in Rockport, Maine.


The Polish-born photographer Ilona Szwarc lives and works in New York. In her work she explores themes such as gender identity and beauty in the context of American culture.
