American Girls

Share:

From 5 June to 3 July 2013, the Foley Gallery in New York will be showing the exhibition "American Girls" by Ilona Szwarc.

In her series, the Polish photographer explores the American phenomenon of Lookalike Dolls – a doll which has been customised and accessorised to resemble their young owners. Working with a Leica S2 for part of the project, Szwarc has created arresting photographs of girls in search of individuality.

About the photographer:
Ilona Szwarc was born in Warsaw in 1984. From 2010 to 2013, she studied at the School of Visual Arts in New York, where she still lives. Szwarc was awarded 3rd prize at World Press Photo 2013 – for a portrait from "American Girls".
