Ian Parry Scholarship 2020

Share:

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Ian Parry Scholarship. Applications are accepted until July 5, 2020.

Once again, young photojournalists are invited to apply for the annual Ian Parry Scholarship. The grant was established in memory of British photojournalist Ian Parry, who lost his life while covering the Rumanian Revolution for the Sunday Times in 1989. He was just 24 years old. Aidan Sullivan, the paper’s picture editor at the time, joined forces with Ian’s friends and family to build something positive from such a tragic death.
The contest is aimed at young photographers from around the world; applicants must be under the age of 24.

The Ian Parry Scholarship is divided into two categories, with each winner receiving USD 3,500: the Canon Award for Potential, and the Sunday Times Award for Achievement. In 2019, the latter was awarded to Leica photographer Nanna Heitman for her series ‘Hiding from Baba Yaga’ – which was also recognised with the 2019 edition of the Leica Oskar Barnack Newcomer Award.
