New Facade for Hong Kong’s Leica Store

Share:

Leica Store Hong Kong at Causeway Bay boasts a striking new facade: artist and illustrator Calvin Ho, who is based in Hong Kong, was commissioned by Leica Camera AG to give the store’s exterior wall a brand new look. His creation – which adheres to the colour scheme of black, white, and Leica’s distinctive shade of red – is based on four iconic Leica images; in addition to referencing pivotal moments in Leica’s history, the mural also features quotes by famous photographers, along with Leica-related terminology and decorative Chinese symbols.

The world-famous photographs that have been transposed by the artist into mural form are Alfred Eisenstaedt’s iconic V-J Day kiss from the year of 1945, Marc Riboud’s La Peintre de la Tour Eiffel of 1953, Jeff Mermelstein’s Sidewalk of 1995, and Thomas Hoepker’s Muhammad Ali, captured in 1966.
