For the first time ever, the Kunstpalast Museum is presenting an exhibition of Candida Höfer, an overview with around 70 works produced exclusively in Düsseldorf over a period of 40 years. The presentation includes large-format single images, picture groups, projections and an early film by the artist, which she filmed together with Tony Morgan in 1975, at the Düsseldorf ice-cream parlour, "Da Forno". Most of the pieces have never been shown publicly before.
Höfer's creativity is closely linked to the city of Düsseldorf. Her very first solo exhibition was held at a gallery here, and this was the place where, since the very beginning of her studies with Bernd Becher at the Art Academy, she always stumbled across new and very diverse motifs.
Candida Höfer's work is characterized by a cool objectivity, a pronounced interest in structures and orderly space, and her precise capture of detail.
