Patrick Faigenbaum has been announced as the winner of the Henri Cartier-Bresson Award 2013. The French photographer captured the jury's attention with his project "Kolkata". The series accompanies the artist Shreyasi Chatterjee on her day-to-day life in Calcutta, while simultaneously painting an intimate picture of the Indian subcontinent.
The award consists of 35,000 euro prize money, designed to enable the winner to carry out a project which would otherwise be difficult to fund. Participants must have previous publications and exhibitions which illustrate a documentary style approach – in reference to Leica photographer and Magnum founding member Henri Cartier-Bresson. 18 months after the award has been received, the completed project is exhibited at the Fondation HCB in Paris.
