The Haus der Photographie's circle of friends is organizing the symposium within the framework of a retrospective of Harry Callahan's work, that is being presented at Hamburg's Haus der Photographie until June 23, 2013.
In addition to the opening words by curator Dr. Sabine Schnakenberg, Prof. Dr. Christoph Schaden of the Technischen Hochschule Nürnberg (Visual studies) and Dr. Susanne Holschbach of the Neuen Schule für Fotografie in Berlin (Theory and History of Photography) will talk about how Harry Callahan and “New Color” were received in West Germany in 1973-1990, as well as the role of his wife and model, Eleanor, in his work.
The symposium will be rounded off with a screening of Michael Engler's film "Contemporary photography in America. A cinematic workshop discussion" from 1982, and followed by a closing discussion.
