On 17 April 2019, German photographer Jakob Schnetz will be talking about his new book, ‘Ort der Verheißung’ (Place of Promise) at the GAF in Hanover. The event starts at 19:00.
Created over the course of several years, Jakob Schnetz’s book publication ‘Place of Promise’ shines a light on the strange world of trade shows – events that are specifically geared towards a maximum concentration of supply and demand. Short-lived and condensed into a limited physical space, they are perfect reflections of our consumer-driven culture. Every conceivable type of industry – weapons, eroticism, pets, art, babies, jewellery, IT, tourism, cars – has its dedicated expos. Jakob Schnetz immersed himself in this unique world – giving rise to a curious collection of insightful and humorous images.
Born in Freiburg in 1991, Jakob Schnetz studied photojournalism in Hanover and Tomsk. In addition to his commissioned work (editorial and corporate), he pursues long-term projects exploring social and economic structures. His work has been recognised with multiple awards.
