With her very personal and provocative style, the Dutch photographer Viviane Sassen is considered one of the most exciting figures of contemporary photography. Her discrete freelance work with surreal, colourful pictures taken in Africa, earned her the 2007 Prix de Rome.
Sassen's spontaneous, non-commercial and individual approach means that her fashion photography springs the limits of the genre. The field of fashion offers her the space to experiment and a wealth of materials, with which she has developed her own unique imagery.
The In and Out of Fashion images clearly reveal Sassen's influence on the future of fashion photography. In this, her first comprehensive exhibition in Germany, the Fotografie Forum Frankfurt is presenting the fashion images she has produced over the last 18 years.
