Rockstar and photographer: In an Austrian premiere, the OstLicht Gallery in Vienna will be showing an exhibition of photographs by Bryan Adams from 19 June to 21 September 2013.
Among the subjects who have posed in front of the artist’s camera are Amy Winehouse, Queen Elizabeth II, Mick Jagger and Louise Bourgeois, to name but a few. Many of the portraits were originally created for the magazine “Zoo”, which Adams founded in Berlin in 2004. The images are a playful take on the stereotypical representation of celebrities – from Lindsey Lohan with a cigarette between scarlet lips, to a pensive Amy Winehouse.
Far from focusing solely on the world of fame, Adams’ latest project addresses the issue of British soldiers who have returned injured from duty in Afghanistan and Iraq. Yet there is one thing all of the images have in common – they tell of the photographer's genuine interest in the people he is portraying.
