The 8th WestLicht photo auction on May 24 will bring together many highlights: the selection includes two rare, large-format, pictures from August Sander's People of the 20th Century, as well as an early daguerreotype from around 1841, which must be attributed to one of the pioneers of Austrian photography.
High quality vintage prints
One main focus is dedicated to classic Magnum reportage photography from the fifties and sixties, with vintage prints by Werner Bischof, Henri-Cartier Bresson, René Burri and Cornell Capa. The Austrian photography ranges from Trude Fleischmann to Ernst Haas, Erich Lessing and Inge Morath. Works by international fashion photographers have a prominent position, including early pictures by Edward Steichen and Horst P. Horst, as well as fashion shots by Lillian Bassman, Jeanloup Sieff and David LaChapelle.
Another highlight is the portrait of Lisa Fonssagrives-Penn, taken by Irving Penn in 1949.
