Finisage and Film Night

Share:

On Wednesday, 9 January 2013, the OstLicht Gallery in Vienna will be screening the film ‘Alice in the Cities’, to mark the end of the exhibition ‘Wim Wenders. Places, Strange and Quiet’. In the film, which Wenders directed in 1974, photography plays a particular role: German journalist Philip Winter has spent several weeks travelling the United States while trying to write an article, but ends the trip with nothing but a stack of Polaroids. Financially destitute and in the middle of a deep life crisis, he encounters Lisa van Damm and her nine-year-old daughter at New York’s JFK Airport.

The evening also offers a final chance to view the exhibition. 'Wim Wenders. Places, Strange and Quiet’ is a collection of photographs Wenders took on his travels of Australia, Armenia, Japan, Italy, Eastern Germany and the US, with an emphasis on images of deserted places.
