Backhaus and Freund

From 20 September to 24 November, Kunsthalle Erfurt will be presenting "CC – Classic Contemporary" with works by Jessica Backhaus (*1970) and Gisèle Freund (1908–2000).

Despite their different photographic approaches, the two artists shared a connection since meeting in Paris in 1992. As well as photographic series by Backhaus, the exhibition includes selected works by Freund – chosen by Backhaus herself as well as curator Silke Opitz.

One Day in November
Jessica Backhaus dedicated her book "One Day in November" (Kehrer Publishing) to her friend Gisèle Freund. An article of the same title was published in LFI 1/2009, featuring a photographic series by the two artists, as well as an interview discussing photography and friendship.
