Artistic Journey

Share:

The Polka Galerie in Paris are currently hosting a cycle of three exhibitions of photographs by Daido Moriyama. The first of the series – “Hokkaido-Northern“, documenting life on the Japanese island of Hokkaido – has just come to an end, and will now be followed by a display of thirty photographs from the artist’s time in Paris. The exhibition will be open from 14th to 22nd of November. From 1988 to 1990, Moriyama lived in various parts of Paris, taking a huge number of photographs which illustrate his almost compulsive play with light and dark in order to create high-contrast graphics.

When Moriyama discoverd Andy Warhol’s silkscreens in 1968, he was immediately fascinated by this traditional printing technique, finding it a natural extension of his photographic language. One of his first silkscreen images was published on the cover of photography magazine “Asahi Camera”. The third and last part of the exhibition, entitled “Silkscreens“, will be showing at the Polka Galerie from November 14th to December 1st, 2012.
