From 19 January to 16 July 2013, Steve McCurry’s exhibition ‘In the Flow of Time. Photographs from Asia 1980 – 2011’ will be showing at the Kunstmuseum in Wolfsburg, Germany. Steve McCurry is counted amongst the most significant contemporary documentary photographers. In 1979, he crossed the border from Pakistan into Afghanistan during the Soviet invasion, and so became one of the first independent reporters to take photographs in the war-torn region. The images he brought back received international acclaim, and were published in the New York Times, Time Magazine and Geo.
His portrait of Sharbat Gula, the girl with haunting green eyes, has become one of McCurry’s most iconic images. The photograph was taken in a refugee camp in Afghanistan, and was published on the cover of National Geographic magazine in 1985. Steve McCurry has been a member of the renowned Magnum photography agency since 1986.
