Regina Schmeken has been photographing footballers in German stadiums since 2004. Her approach is to concentrate completely on the protagonists, on clear graphic lines and on decisive moments, isolated from the complex proceedings of the game itself.
When visiting an exhibition by the artist, Oliver Bierhoff (former player and current Manager of the German National Team) was surprised by this alternate perspective. This resulted in a joint project, whereby the photographer has been accompanying the National Team to their international games since 2011. The pictures on display cover the period from March 2011 to June 2012.
Schmeken has been photographing in black and white since 1976. She has been exhibiting her work regularly since 1980 and has received national and international awards, including the Prix de la Critique in Arles and the Erich Salomon Prize of the German Photography Society.
Within the framework of the exhibition and in collaboration with the German Football Museum, some first items from a future exhibition will be on display.
