From 30 January to 5 May 2013, the '21er Haus' in Vienna will be showing the exhibition 'Photos. Austrian Photographs from the 1930s to today', exploring Austrian photography, both in terms of its current position and its possible direction, as well as examining the genre's stylistic tendencies, visions and trends.
The focus is not so much on the protagonists of the Austrian photography scene, but rather their subjects, allowing for a free and unbiased discourse on art. The images were selected based on three overall themes: 'objects' – past and contemporary still-lifes highlighting everyday objects, and suggesting a return to the idea of private space; 'people' – spontaneous images capturing people's subtle gestures and individuality; and 'photography' – with images about the art form itself.
