For more than thirty years, photography artist Hiroshi Sugimoto has been devoted to depicting the sea. His series of night time seascapes will be displayed under the title “Revolution” at the Museum Brandhorst in Munich, from October 25th, 2012 to February 10th, 2013. The unusual way of presentation – the images being tilted by 90° – has a perplexing effect on the viewer. The impressions they leave vary distinctly, depending on the latitude and the part of the world where they were taken.
The series, which will be displayed in large format, has been created over an extended period of time, with the exhibition in Munich being the first time it is presented to the public. The title “Revolution” does not refer to political or social unrest, but to the overturning of long-established rules and practices because of new insights and realisations.
