The exhibition is dedicated to the 1000 days during which the "Unidad Popular" party was in power. From 1970 to 1973, Chile went through a very unique phase in its history. The presidential elections of September 1970 were the first where a candidate proposing a peaceful transition to democratic socialism won the presidency. It was Salvador Allende.
The photographs taken by John Hall and Michael Ruetz convey an impression of that confused time of societal upheaval, of the striving for a socially-just Chile, and of the street parties and demonstrations.
