A grand exhibition of the works of portrait and fashion photographer Erwin Blumenfeld, at the Folkwang Museum, Essen, from March 2 to May 5, 2013.
Born in Berlin, photographer Erwin Blumenfeld (1897–1969) was one of the most in-demand portrait and fashion photographers of the forties and fifties in the world. Because of his imaginative and unique creativity, he was commissioned to take photos for such leading American magazines as Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Life and Look. Jointly curated by Nadia Blumenfeld-Charbit, the Folkwang Museum in Essen and the Musée Nicéphore Niépce in Chalon-sur-Saône, the exhibition carries the title „Blumenfeld Studio – Colour, New York, 1941–1960“ and reveals the till now barely known story of his photo atelier at 222 Central Park South in New York.
