My Leica Story
This particular adventure began over thirty years ago. I had just finished studying Documentary Photography under Magnum photographer David Hurn in Newport, Wales, when I finally became the owner of a Leica M2 – acquired from a fellow student.

For a photographer, there is nothing quite like your first Leica. A silversmith friend engraved my name on the back, in the tradition started off by LIFE magazine photographer Larry Burrows.

This was back in 1982. For the next four years, my M2 accompanied me on many magazine and newspaper assignments across the globe, until I eventually sold it to a shop in Leeds, UK.

I never saw my old M2 again until... now! The day after Christmas 2013 – almost thirty years on – I received an email from the new owner of my first-ever Leica.

It transpired that he had bought the camera from a Spanish university lecturer living in Madrid, though he himself is based in Paris.

Intrigued by the engraving on the back, he had decided to try an online search for P SALMON, and found my website.

The 'reunion' was certainly a joyful one!
