Piotr Zbierski

July 27, 2014

The Kehrer Gallery in Hamburg presents the work of Polish photographer and former Oskar Barnack Newcomer Award winner Piotr Zbierski. Open until 7 September.
The works of Piotr Zbierski (*1987) start off the gallery's exhibition series Prime 21, which will introduce up-and-coming young photographers in an irregular succession of shows. Titled Love Has To Be Reinvented, the solo exhibition comprises images taken from Zbierski's ongoing series of the same title, along with a selection of works from his award-winning portfolio.

Feeling that we are living in a 'time of masks', Zbierski embarked on the photographic series in 2013, and has been pursuing it ever since. Under the programmatic title of Love Has To Be Reinvented, the photographer seeks to look beyond the metaphorical masks of daily life, in an attempt to reveal the true nature and emotional world of his subjects.

Having studied at the State University for Film, Television and Theatre in Łódź, Poland, Zbierski won the Leica Oskar Barnack Newcomer Award 2012 shortly after his graduation. He was chosen on the strength of his portfolio White Elephants / Pass By Me. In 2014, Zbierski received the European Cultural Foundation Grant, as well as a Polish Ministry of Culture fellowship.
