From 3 October 2014 to 18 January 2015, the ifa Gallery in Berlin presents the exhibition 'BY NOW – Contemporary Photography from Belarus'.
To a large extent, Belarus has been politically and economically isolated from the rest of the world since the 1990s, while internally the country has been shaped by the autocratic rule of Alexander Lukaschenkos. However, a young art scene is emerging to offer a fresh, new visual commentary on their country, filled with humour and sometimes unabashed defiance.
Curated by Matthias Harder, the exhibition presents a multi-faceted picture of today's Belarus, with artistic approaches ranging from classic black and white portraits to Photoshop experiments.
