Christoph Brech expands our perception of the historic sculptures by presenting them with his own artistic vision: Schadows' delicate Dancer figure is brought to life as it turns in circles to the sound of an old musical clock.
His famous Quadriga is depicted entering Berlin's Unter den Linden Boulevard under a desert-coloured sky. Brech also created portraits of Schadows' sculptures stored in the Plaster Workshop in Berlin's Charlottenburg district – capturing them against the backdrop of their contemporary surroundings to create an evocative, multi-faceted juxtaposition.
By presenting Schadows' work within the context of his own artistic approach, Brech endows the sculptures with a new life of their own, elevating the exhibition far above a mere retrospective.
