Photographer Nan Goldin will receive the Edward MacDowell Medal 2012. The award is presented each year by The MacDowell Colony to an artist who has made an outstanding contribution to his or her field. Past receipients of the award have included Robert Franck, Edward Hopper and Leonard Bernstein. This year, scandalous photographer Nan Goldin is to join their ranks. The award will be presented on 12th August 2012, on the MacDowell Colony’s premises in New Hampshire.

“This is one of the greatest honours I’ve ever received in my life”, announced Goldin when her nomination was made public. The exceptional artist is known for her provocative, direct and autobiographical work, which often depicts intensly personal moments and scenes.
