August Sander

Share:

The Photographic Collection/SK Stiftung Kultur takes care of the August Sander Archives and, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Sander's death, will be exhibiting around 300 pieces by the artist. The presentation will be like a kaleidoscopic overview covering a variety of themes that Sander dealt with over a period of five decades.

The collection of works on display will include a selection of portraits that Sander took within the framework of the "Menschen des 20. Jahrhunderts" (People of the 20th Century) project. In addition there will be pieces connected to his home-town Herdorf in Westerwald, where he was born in 1876. A large majority of the photographs will be exhibited for the first time ever.

A group of pictures that were taken in his apartment and his workshop in Cologne-Lindenthal, convey a rather private glimpse of Sander's working and living situation, emphasized by a few of his original belongings and items of furnishing.
