The gallery Clair in Munich will be hosting the exhibition “shuteye” by Oliver Mark, from 18th October to 17th November 2012. The photographer is known for his portraits of international actors, writers and artists. His images create a sense of closeness and familiarity with otherwise unreachable celebrity figures. Cate Blanchett and Will Smith are amongst those who have posed in front of Mark’s camera.
For “shuteye”, the artist has captured staged dreams, portaying his subjects with closed eyes, apparently sleeping or dreaming – amongst them well known artists such as Louise Bourgouis, who rarely liked to be photographed. The exhibition consists not just of portraits, but also includes images of spaces, such as Schiller’s study in Weimar or the deserted sanatorium in Beelitz.
