The Suermondt-Ludwig-Museum in Aachen presents a series of events to complement the exhibition 'New departures. Photographs of Germany', which will be on display until 6 October 2013.
The exhibition comprises of around 110 photographs – all of them dedicated to a portrayal of Germany – taken from the private collection of Karsten Fricke and Dr. Christiane Fricke. Along with images by famous German photojournalists such as Robert Lebeck and Barbara Klemm, the selection includes works by Swiss photographer René Burri (recent recipient of the Leica Hall of Fame Award), taken from the vantage point of an outside observer.
The programme of events starts with a talk by the collection's owners, Dr. Christiane and Karsten Fricke. The couple will describe why they started their collection, how they decided which photos to acquire, how much money has been involved – and why their collection will become a gift to the museum.
