Poetry in Black and White

Share:

A four-day special exhibition at the IBASHO Gallery in Antwerp presents two ongoing series by Dutch Leica photographer Margaret Lansink: Borders of Nothingness and On the Mend.

In her work the artist (born 1961) conducts visual explorations of human relationships and emotional states. Her images, which are printed on rare Japanese paper, bring to mind vintage techniques such as daguerreotypes. Lansink realises her artistic visions with a Leica M6.

Borders of Nothingness was created in 2017 in the course of an Artist Residency in Onishi, Japan. In this series, Lansink attempts to process a fractured relationship with her adult daughter. Inspired by the Japanese tradition of repairing broken ceramics with gold leaf, she creates collages from severed images, which are then artfully treated with gold leaf – alluding to the hopeful possibility that a bond that was once broken might be turned into something stronger and more beautiful than ever before.
