A SKATEBOARDER'S ROMANCE

October 15, 2013

From 18 to 31 October 2013, the WestLicht Photography Museum in Vienna will be showing an exhibition by Austrian skater and photographer Philipp Schuster
Philipp Schuster (1984) has made a name for himself as an internationally recognised skateboarder. It was his ambition to capture the lifestyle of street skating which initially led him to photography.

His latest project follows a group of fellow skaters building a self-designed indoor skate bowl in the basement of an apartment block in Vienna. Over the course of several months, Schuster accompanied the endeavour with his camera, creating an extensive series which goes far beyond a mere documentary.

Complementing the project (which will be exhibited for the first time) will be a selection of action photographs and videos Schuster created over the past few years. Designed to be a sculptural part of the exhibition space, a skateboard ramp will be set up within the gallery – on the last day of the exhibition, it will be open for public use.
