Five decades of London

Share:

An exhibition of London city life from 1930 to 1980, documented by renowned international photographers, will be on display at the London Tate Gallery from 27th July to 16th September. The exhibition will include photographs by well-known artists such as Henri Cartier-Bresson, Robert Frank, Dora Maar and Irving Penn.

To these artists, London was a foreign city, which they either visited briefly or settled in permanently. Each photographer represented city life in their own unique style, based on their personal perception. The results are widely varying images of the capital: British emblems like the famous red busses or the distinctive high bearskin cap worn by the Queen's Guard, alongside the pavement artists, beggars and buskers of the poorer districts.
