Leica Camera AG have released their financial results for the first half of the fiscal year: An overall decrease in sales of compact cameras on the global market notwithstanding, Leica have been able to describe their position as ‘good’. The company’s semi-annual turnover has reached 149.2 million Euros – an increase of 5.3 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.
The operating result (EBIT) amounts to 30.9 million Euros, compared to 33.1 Million Euros for the corresponding period last year. The decrease is due to Leica’s investment in the company’s high-profile representation at the 2012 Photokina imaging fair in Köln, as well as the start-up costs of the new products introduced at the event.
As a result of introducing many new products – both in the fields of photography and sports optics – Leica have for the first time recorded sales of more than 100 Million Euros at the end of the second quarter of the fiscal year 2012/13.
