40 Years Leica Portugal

Leica Camera AG and its Portuguese daughter company, Leica Aparelhos Ópticos de Precisão S.A., celebrated the 40 year jubilee of the establishment of the Leica operation in Portugal, with a joint bicycle tour. Over 160 colleagues from Germany and Portugal set off to discover the site's history, and to get a real sense of the company's evolution over the years.

Leica Aparelhos Ópticos de Precisão S.A. was founded in Portugal is 1973. With regard to the manufacturing of Leica products, the plant has the same strategic significance for the company as the manufacturing plant in Solms. In addition to manufacturing various Leica sport optics, the Portuguese operation also produces parts and components for current Leica lenses and camera systems.

Last spring, Leica Camera AG celebrated the inauguration of Leica Aparelhos Ópticos de Precisão S.A.'s new company plant. The building is still located in Vila Nova de Famalicão close to the former location.
