R6 black with a Summicron-R 50 mm f/2, 1988
Produced from 1988 to 1992, the R6 was not only Leica's first fully mechanical mirror reflex camera since the SL2, but also the first Leica to be entirely manufactured in Solms.
Its only battery-dependent element was the exposure meter, which offered both spot and integral (centre-weighted) metering. Like with the M6, exposure was measured with the aid of a TTL diode-match meter system, which indicates over, under and correct exposure via an LED triangle.
The R6 also re-introduced mirror lock-up, as well as offering a more grippy shutter speed dial with higher settings.
