R4S Mod. 2

May 1, 2014

An improved version of the Leica R4 – featuring a polycarbonate-encased winder lever and re-designed mode selector dial
Manufactured from 1985 to 1988, the R4S Mod.2 can be identified by the engraving on its hot-shoe. The camera featured several small improvements over the R4: its transport lever was fully encased in polycarbonate plastic, and the program selection was re-designed to ensure that it could no longer accidentally switch to manual mode when the photographer changes from selective to integral metering.

In addition, the omission of shutter priority and program modes on this simplified model led to an overall improvement of the camera's performance at a lower retail price.
