Leica T

April 24, 2014

In celebration of their centennial anniversary, Leica have introduced a new camera system: the Leica T – Leica's first mirrorless system camera with APS-C sensor
Leica boldly step into the future with the new T system: Leica's first digital mirrorless system camera unites modern touchscreen operation and Live View with traditional Leica quality and craftsmanship.

At the heart of this praise is the collaboration with AUDI design and the creation of the Leica T-Unibody. Its 16 megapixel CMOS sensor has already established its performance in the X Vario, which is known for its excellent image quality. The large touchscreen on the back (3.7'') is the T’s central operating element, utilised by tapping and swiping. Other than the shutter buttons for photo and video, the camera features no keys, but simply two dials whose functions change depending on the selected camera mode.

Using the integrated Wi-Fi module the images can be wirelessly transmitted to smartphones, tablets, and various social media platforms via the new Leica-T app which is available for iOS devices.

By combining time-honoured Leica attributes with the user-friendly comfort of modern features such as touchscreen operation, the T is aimed not only at established Leica fans, but is also designed to appeal to an entirely new customer base.

The Leica T is a completely new development, featuring its own bayonet mount, lens system and operating concept. To begin with, the system will comprise two initial lenses: the Summicron T 23 mm f/2 Asph (equivalent to a classic 35 mm focal length) and the Vario-Elmar T 18-56 mm f/3.5–5.6 Asph (28–85 mm equivalent) offering all of the creative possibilities of a standard zoom. In addition, an adapter enables the entire range of M lenses to be used on the new Leica T.

The Leica T-System will be available to order starting Monday, May 26th through Leica Stores, Leica Boutiques, and select Leica Dealers.
