Little demand for a self-timer
Leitz brought the Leica IIId onto the market at practically the same time as the Leica IIIc. The only difference to its sister model was the new self-timer located next to the slow speed dial.

There was little demand for this feature in the selfie Stone Age, leading Leica historian Erwin Puts to comment on how it gave the Leica body a cluttered appearance.

The fairly unsuccessful model represents one of Leica's most rarely produced series, with serial numbers suggesting only as many as 437.
