Leica I C and Elmar 50 mm f/3.5, 1930
The Leica successfully evolved to become a camera system in 1930: The Leica I C had a screw thread for interchangeable lenses.
The year before it had already been possible to purchase the Leica I A with either an Elmar 50 mm f/3.5 lens or the Hektor 50 mm f/2.5 lens.
The great disadvantage of the first version of the Leica I C was that each interchangeable lens had to be individually adapted to the respective camera at the manufacturing plant – a very laborious process that was simply not financially viable. The following year, however, it was replaced by a much more feasible solution.
