Nan Goldin

May 3, 2017

From 5 May to 11 June 2017, an exhibition of the American photographer’s work will be presented at the Fabian & Claude Walter Gallery in Zurich, Switzerland.
An exhibition of works by American photographer Nan Goldin is set to open at Zurich’s Fabian & Claude Walter Gallery on 4 May 2017. Spanning the years from 1980 to 2001, the photographs were curated in collaboration with Daniel Blochwitz, from whose unique collection the images were taken.

A former dancer, Blochwitz has a long-standing personal relationship with the photographer. In fact several of the images in Goldin’s series The Ballade of Sexual Dependency were shot at Blochwitz’s home in Boston. His advocacy also gave Goldin unprecedented access to Berlin’s gay scene, resulting in some of the images on display.

Nan Goldin (born 1953) occupies a central role in contemporary photography. Her images are a direct and candid portrayal of her immediate environment – depicting not only the artist’s friends but also, frequently, herself. Goldin’s work has been shown in numerous museums and galleries around the world. A recent exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York encompassed close to 700 images from The Ballade of Sexual Dependency.
